Are you too a part of this perpetual race? If you are, then make sure you cross the finish line as well
“How in the hell could a man enjoy being awakened at 6:30 a.m. by an alarm clock, leap out of bed, dress, force-feed, shit, piss, brush teeth and hair, and fight traffic to get to a place where essentially you made lots of money for somebody else and were asked to be grateful for the opportunity to do so?” – Charles Bukowski
Charles Bukowski has always been a great inspiration for me. His thoughts have inspired me a lot to become a better person in life. It is very essential to have an understandability towards things, and Charles Bukowski has that understandability that always makes me admire him more and more and more. Well, if you will try to comprehend the depth of the above thought written by him, you’ll understand how the rat race thing is creeping all over us.
Let’s see how Google has defined the term rat race: A way of life in which people are caught up in a fiercely competitive struggle for wealth or power. One of the soul-satisfying definition I read today, Isn’t it?
The rat race starts on the very first day of our birth. Let’s have a look – We born, we grow up, we are then sent to school for studies, and while choosing a school, we are obsessed with getting admitted to the most renowned schools, then the race start for securing the highest marks in the entire class, being a topper and get praised by our teacher. But in this entire process, parents forget that ‘Is there any value being gained by a student? Or is he just gratifying his/her parent’s need? It is very well said by someone that if you want your children to turn out well, you should spend twice as much time with them and half as much money.
As soon as school life ends, now we get ready for the race of getting admitted to one of the best colleges in the city. By some means, we get admitted to one of the best colleges, and there we study hard so that we will get placed in reputed companies. And fortunately, we managed to get placed in one of the most reputed company. Now what, the race ends? Nope….It is just the beginning.
While doing a job of 8 or sometimes 9 hours, we get so busy in making a living that we forget to make a life, a life we all had once desired to have, a life where there is no competition with others, where you’ll get better by competing with your own self, a life where you just want to sit by the window when it rains, enjoying your coffee and reading books. But being a part of a rat race, we have forgotten to live for ourselves. How about getting a life where you do not want a weekend, where you don’t have to wait for the weekend to enjoy. I want us all to have that kinda life to live. I have heard many of us saying that I have just got settled for a job, but a very few (equivalent to none) says that I love my job but just saying is not ample it always reflects on their face and when you see that glow on their face, in their eyes, do believe them always because they are the happiest creature on the earth.
I just want to say that we all are mature enough to talk to ourselves, mature enough to become our best friends, mature enough for taking any required decision, mature enough to listen to our own advice. So go for it not to change your life but just the way you are living it, oh sorry not living it but just settling down for it.
If you still want to be a part of that never-ending race, it is all up to you but make sure you finish the race, and even after finishing the race, you’ll end up being a rat. So think about it and make a choice because, in the end, it is all about the matter of choices.
Death is not the greatest loss in life, the greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.
